Hey guys! Are you a High School student looking to buy a car ? If so, this is the right article for you! In this article I will try and help you find the perfect car for your needs. All the cars in this article can be found for under 6 000$ in Canada.
10. 2002-2010 Toyota Corolla
The Toyota Corolla is the perfect car for someone who is looking for a Car to go from point A to point B without any fuss.
The Corolla is not the the fastest car out there, it only has a 128 horsepower 1.8L inline 4 cylinder engine, on most trim levels. Although the XRS model has a much peppier 164 horsepower engine. But those are rarer and more expensive.
Even if it isn't the fastest, it is a great first car for High-School students, it is very inexpensive to buy and own. Earlier models can cost less than $1 000.
They are one of the most reliable cars you can buy, they can easily last up to 400 000 kms and cost very little to repair and maintain.
They are also very fuel efficient with a combined fuel economy of about 32 mpg depending on the model.
9. 1999-2006 Toyota Celica
The Toyota Celica is ,basically, a two door, sportier version of the Toyota Corolla.
It comes with two 4 cylinder engines, one produces 140 horsepower ant the other produces 180 horsepower. These engines offer fairly good performance without compromising on fuel efficiency, which is very important for Teenagers.
Toyota Celicas are very reliable as well and quite inexpensive to maintain.
You can find one anywhere from $2 000 to $6 000.

The Nissan Versa is a perfect car for someone who needs great fuel economy and practicality. The Nissan Versa's 1.6L or 1.8L 4 cylinder engines offer great fuel economy, around the 33-34 mpg mark.
They are also very practical, they come in either a 4 door sedan or 5 door hatchback configuration.
These are some of the cheapest cars out there, you can find a late 2000's Versas with very low mileage for around $4 000.
These are not necessarily the coolest or most fun cars out there, but they get the job done cheaply and reliably.

The Ford Mustang is the perfect car for a High-School student that wants to impress his friends and own a fun sports car.
These are not known to be necessarily reliable or fuel efficient, although they are decently inexpensive to maintain and repair
They come in two different engine variations. A 3.8L V6 that produces 193 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque or a 4.6L V8 that produces 260 horsepower and 302 lb-ft of torque. These are both fairly quick but the V8 option is quite fun and desirable.
Ford Mustangs are rear wheel drive, which can sometimes be a pain in Canadian winters.

The Mazda B series is a perfect little truck for a teenager who needs a pickup truck.
These pickup trucks are not quite as capable as full size pickup trucks but they do offer better fuel economy.
The Mazda B series truck is basically the same vehicle as the Ford Ranger. These trucks come with many different engine variations, ranging from a 2.4L 4 cylinder to a 4L V6. These engines produce anywhere from 126 horsepower to 160 horsepower.
They are not the most fuel efficient vehicles on the market with approximately 22 mpg combined, which is not terrible for a pickup truck.

The Volkswagen Golf City is a Great, reliable, German car.
It is great for any teenager that really wants a European car without breaking the bank.
It is one of the best looking sub-compact cars of its era. For many people, it is much more aesthetic than its competition (Toyota echo, Honda fit etc.)
It also has a decent 2.0 liter inline four cylinder engine producing 115 horsepower and 122 ft/lbs of torque. Its gas mileage is around 34 mpg, which is very good for high school students.
This car is only available in Canada, South America and China

It is a great first car for a teenager who lives in snowy areas. The all wheel drive system takes on the snow easily.
It is also has a nice sporty look. It comes in many different variations, including a wagon version, the WRX and the WRX STI.
The engines in these cars are inline four cylinders. the produce between 160 horsepower, for the base model to 300 horsepower for the WRX STI variant, which comes with a turbocharger.
You can easily find the base model of these cars under the $6000 budget, but the WRX and WRX STI versions will cost a little bit more (between $7000 and $17 000)
