The car industry is a extremely vast. There are many different types of cars, for example: convertibles, coupes, sedans, hatchbacks, pickup trucks, SUV's and more. In 2019, sedans and coupes are gradually becoming obsolete and SUV's and pickup trucks are gaining popularity. Why is that? In this blogpost I will attempt to explain why this gradual shift to larger cars in America is a good thing for most people.

Firstly, I will talk about fuel economy. If you wanted to buy a large SUV or a pickup truck in the late 1990's and early 2000's you had to be ready to pay a lot of money for gasoline. These vehicles came with large V6 or V8 engines that would get horendous gas mileage. But now, in 2019, many SUV's and pickups come with smaller 4 or 6 cylinder engines that, in some cases, have forced induction (turbochargers, superchargers) or hybrid technology, this makes them extremely economical compared to there V8 counterparts. People can now drive large vehicles without spending too much money on fuel and without destroying the environement, this makes them great!

Secondly, the main reason why people chosse SUV's and trucks over cars, is for their utility. SUV's are the perfect family cars. They have great second row seating and large cargo areas, some even have a third row of seats. Trucks are also known for their utility, construction workers and farmers have been using them for decades, but recently trucks have also become great family cars with luxury features. SUV'S and trucks also often come with AWD or 4WD drivetrains, this combined with the fact that their are usually high off the ground makes them very usefull for off-roading and winter driving. You can not beat the utility of SUV's and pickup trucks.

Many people still choose sedans and hatchbacks over SUV's and pickup trucks because these cars are much easier to park and drive in the city. However, some sub-compact and compact SUV's are very small and nimble, which actually makes them perfect for city driving. Furthermore, most roads in North-America are actually very wide and can easily accomadate even the largest of vehicles.

To conclude, although I am not by any means a sedan and coupe hater. In my opinion, due to improved fuel economy in newer models and convenience reasons, most North-American people should buy SUV's or pickup trucks as thier daily drivers. Finnaly, do you agree with my opinion? If not, give me your opinion in the comments section bellow!
